The Reading League’s Pre-K / Language Curriculum Evaluation Guidelines (PCEGs) were developed as a compilation of research on what must be present in Pre-K curricula to ensure that children develop adequate language and pre-literacy skills to thrive in elementary school. The PCEGs can and should be used for curriculum review and as a learning and walk-through tool. They can also serve as a framework for organizing and developing course content for pre-service teachers in educator preparation programs, ensuring they are prepared to provide joyful and playful, yet rich and fruitful learning for 3- to 5-year-olds.
